Donald Trump regularly offers praise and judgment to people he feels warrant it. Inoffensive individuals are characterized as great human beings, while an authoritarian world leader might simply be described as a horrible person. Mr. Trump’s rhetoric is excellent and incredible – it’s perfect for late night TV. It is also reminiscent of Niccolo Machiavelli’s advice in the Prince.
When it happens that some one does something extraordinary, either good or evil, in civil life, he [the Prince] must find such means of rewarding or punishing him which will be much talked about. And above all a prince must endeavour in every action to obtain fame for being great and excellent [emphasis added].
